Photo: the Area 51 Alien Center

As we made our way along US Route 95 from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe, we had no idea that we were travelling past Area 51 – that famously mysterious US airbase rumoured to house some crashed UFOs and experimental aircraft.

That is, we had no idea until we saw this: the Area 51 Alien Center. Naturally, we had to turn around and go take a picture.

The Area 51 Alien Center in Nevada

I can’t imagine this kitschy store in Pahrump gets too many visitors, mostly because I’m betting you’ve never heard of this unincorporated town in Nye County, Nevada – but it is well worth a look if you’re driving through. It’s filled with all sorts of weird and outrageous alien and Area 51 memorabilia.

But that’s not all. Apparently the Area 51 Alien Center even has an alien-themed brothel around the back (I honestly didn’t check), designed by former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

Now that’s just weird.

  1. This definitely caught my eye as I’ve lived in Reno for 34 years now, Simon! I’ve driven past Area 51 several times and I’m always so intrigued with all of the touristy stuff that is down there. And yes we still have some renowned brothels in the state but nothing like it was when I first moved here 🙂

  2. LOL – we would stop here if we were driving by. We were in the US this past summer and drove through Arizona. Right near the border with Nevada we stopped at a different alien place. I linked my photos to my name.
