Photo Friday: dos and don’ts in Luang Prabang

They say a picture says a thousand words – well, this one literally says a couple of hundred.

Dos and don'ts in Luang Prabang

You might have seen it before; I imagine a lot of backpackers in Luang Prabang photograph this sign, especially as it tells you to.

But isn’t it a great sign?

Bask in its glory, reflect on the fact that it’s probably had more readers than anything on this travel blog, ask yourself why it says you should visit two of three waterfalls (what’s wrong with the third?) and do take note.

I didn’t do all the dos but I certainly did none of the don’ts – and that’s probably the way it should be. You’d be busy trying to tick everything off the list and this is Laos PDR, baby – please don’t rush!

Observe Luang Prabang’s famously colourful procession of monks, climb Phousi at sunset and definitely go for a drink at Utopia, which is probably the best bar in all of Southeast Asia.

Most importantly, don’t stay less than three nights in Luang Prabang.

You’ll regret it if you do. Luang Prabang is special; it’s a quiet and peaceful town that is far and away the best place to travel to in all of Laos.

From the moment I touched down at the Luang Prabang airport there was just something about this place that really seemed to click. It was so pretty, so calm, so peaceful.

Then again, anywhere seems calm and peaceful after backpacking in Vietnam.

And you would have seen this photo before if you’re a fan of Man vs World on Facebook. If you haven’t then you’re missing out! Like Man vs World right now.

  1. Can’t stop of loving this little city, so much to see. We went to Laos few years ago for couple of weeks and visited only Ventien, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. Willg o back one day 🙂

    • It’s probably in danger of being overexposed thanks to travel bloggers like myself but I just can’t stop talking about what a wicked little place Luang Prabang is!

  2. Those “Dos and Don’ts” sounded like great tip for visiting Luang Prabang. And it gives the reader what to expect of the place. Thanks for the post. 🙂

    • They’re great, aren’t they? There was another I photographed in Luang Prabang but it was pretty much identical.
